Pool Party For Thanksgiving Celebration

Thanksgiving Pool Party Celebration

Pool Party

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching—as seen by stores setting up Christmas decorations and displays already. If you’re struggling for ideas for your family or friends Thanksgiving celebration, consider throwing a pool party ! It sounds insane for most of the country but Phoenix is begging for it! With average high temperatures at 70 degrees or higher, there’s no excuse not to enjoy your pool in November—especially if you have a hot tub or Jacuzzi for when it gets dark!

When you’ve spent hours upon hours cooking in a hot kitchen preparing the perfect turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes it would feel sublime to jump in the pool before serving dinner. Most of the country can’t enjoy warm weather in November but you can! Heated pools can provide relaxation, warmth, and cooling effects year round in the right climates.

You may be asking yourself “shouldn’t you wait an hour after eating to swim?” and you’re correct to think that because we’ve all been told that since childhood. As convincing as our parents were in telling us this, it’s a myth. Even if it were true, eating an early dinner provides your company with plenty of time to digest before taking a relaxing dip. Later dinner allows for pre-dinner swims to build up an appetite. Regardless of the time of the meal, swimming before and/or after such a big meal can be fun, relaxing, and energizing.

Pull out the floaties, turn on the Jacuzzi, and bring out the beach ball and take a dip this Thanksgiving. You have the day off for a reason; enjoy it before the temperature drops a little more.  Get in that inner-tube or pool lounger and digest the tryptophan and starch in the most relaxing way possible. Forget that your aunt and uncle had a fight at the table or that your nephews and nieces were screaming because you ran out of pumpkin pie.

After the kids are all taking their food-coma induced naps and your in-laws go home, why not turn on the jets and pull out the bubbly and relax in a hot tub with your closest friends and coolest family members. If you’re into Black Friday shopping, use this time to prep your body for the pushing and shoving to come.

Pool PartyIf you’re not fond of sharing your pool with your relatives, invite your friends over the next day and eat all the leftovers pool-side in the early afternoon. Keep cool and enjoy the 4-day weekend.

No matter what you do this Thanksgiving weekend, you can contact us for weekly pool cleaning or preventative repairs and maintenance. You can even ask us about some renovations or changes to make your Thanksgiving memorable. Also, if your creepy uncle spills gravy in the pool or the kids throw their pie at each other pool-side we can help clean the pool to its pristine glory before your Christmas party.

Acid Washing Pools

Tags :

Acid Washing Pools

Acid WashingWhen pools begin looking slimy and swamp-like, it’s time for a good acid washing. This process is also called “drain and clean.” This removes all traces of algae from improper winterization, neglect, or an algae takeover. What this process does is strip a thin layer of plaster from the pool, exposing fresh and clean surfaces. While acid washing produces a very clean looking pool, having it done too often will lead to a rapid need of re-plastering, so it is not often done every year.

If you are unsure as to what type of clean your pool needs, here’s a tip; if you can see to the bottom of the pool a good chemical and filtering clean should do the trick. If the water is dark enough to where you cannot see the pool floor there is nothing to do besides an acid wash because the cost of chemicals and filtering will be higher than the acid cleaning. Acid cleaning is a fairly expensive procedure but it’s well worth it.

Before getting this process done on your pool, contact the city water suppliers to know the proper disposal process of the dirty water and the acid treated water. Your pool cleaning company should know this, but it doesn’t hurt to inform the water board. If you’re lucky, the water company may wave some of the fees of refilling your pool if you give them notice.

Acid cleaning involves Muratic acid and water mixed (acid added to the water). This necessitates appropriate goggles, masks, and hazmat suits, so it’s best to let the technician do his work while you stay at a safe distance. Muratic acid is harmful to a lot of living organisms (hence using it for algae removal) and it must be treated before pumped out of the pool. Soda ash is added to the foamy residue after cleaning to make it safer to pumping and to reduce the risk of the film further stripping the pool surface.

While you can perform this type of clean on your own, the high risk and health concerns make it worth it to call a professional. Hiring a company like Pool Daddy will ensure it’s done safely and correctly and the pool will be ready to use after the algae and cleaning chemicals are fully removed and neutralized. Technicians will also know of the proper disposal procedures to avoid state involvement or harm to the environment.

Of course, it’s best to avoid the need for acid washing your pool. This can be prevented with weekly (or other forms of regular) pool cleaning services provided by Pool Daddy. Let the professionals do the work so you can relax and enjoy your pool. The cost may seem high but it’s better than risking acid exposure or algae-related issues.

Pool Cleaners Tricky Services That You Should Be Aware

Tags :

Pool CleanersBeware of Tricky Pool Cleaners

Service’s from Pool Daddy will always be done correctly the first time and we pride ourselves with honesty and conduct business with integrity. There are things some pool companies do that we would like to warn you about. Here are 5 things some pool companies may do to you.

  1. Skip your home. Some pool cleaners will skip homes when they are behind schedule. Reputable companies will not skip appointments if they can avoid it. The right company will either reschedule or inform you of the problem and work something out. Some companies, however, will just skip and hope you don’t call the company and ask about it. Check with your pool cleaning service provider if you have been missed or if there was some other issue.
  2. High turnover rate of employees. Smaller companies tend to keep a close knit group of employees far better than larger companies. Larger companies can afford to train multiple people but often don’t train them past the minimum requirements. You gain a much more intimate relationship with smaller local companies since they tend to take pride and time in training technicians who are trained in the chemistry, engineering, plumbing, and other required fields for proper pool maintenance. Be leery of companies who seem to have new groups of technicians at every visit and ask about the training provided to employees.
  3. Changing fees or charging more for chemicals. While the expected or agreed upon cost may change depending on the season, services provided, and gas prices, the price shouldn’t randomly increase beyond a discussed flat rate. General chemicals like chlorine shouldn’t change the cost significantly, but special ordered chemicals or products may. Regardless of amount used, a fixed amount should be applied for the use of chemicals.
  4. Used parts in maintenance. While there may be nothing wrong with a used part (installed for one season, refurbished, etc) some companies may be using parts which are likely to break or malfunction due to age or amount of previous use. Insist upon knowing the age and prior usage of any parts involved in repairs. If they refuse to tell you, there’s a good chance it’s a cheap used part.Pool Cleaners
  5. Be aware of regulations. Some states only require tax based information and minimal licensing to open up a pool cleaning and maintenance company and some companies may sub out repairs to other companies. Make sure you are aware of the licensing and any third party companies involved in your pool maintenance, cleaning, and repair. Do your research and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

At Pool Daddy you will receive highly trained technicians who care about providing work done correctly the first time. Check out sites like Angie’s List to read about companies and gather some tips for choosing the right pool cleaners or other service provider.

Pool Covers Different Types

Tags :

Pool Covers

Winter is fast approaching and for those not interested in using their pools year round, it may be time to start thinking about bringing out the cover or replacing the old one. Pool covers are the most important step towards prepping a pool for the off season. Contact us to discuss how to best prepare your pool for closing.

pool covers Plastic sheet covers: These are the least expensive options, but due to the low cost they can also become very high maintenance. Not only are these thinner than other options, but they can become torn easier and they need more maintenance throughout the use. Once installed, they may become weighed down by leaves, debris, rain, and snow. This can cause the cover to end up under the pool waterline quickly. They are kept in place (to a point) with water-filled plastic bags to keep the cover from blowing away in wind. However, this does promote the sinking problem previously mentioned. If someone walks onto this cover there is a high risk of drowning or other injuries, but it can be easily avoided if the area is fenced off or not used outside of pool use. These are a great option for those on a budget or those looking to only close the pool for a short time.

  1. Safety Cover: These  pool covers are made from a woven mesh material and are stretched tautly over the pool, resembling a trampoline. Springs and anchors embedded within the pool deck are used to hold the cover in place. While it may resemble a trampoline, it is still not recommended to jump on it, though the risk of injury or drowning is drastically decreased. Rain water and melted snow can get into the pool, reducing the need for regular maintenance of the cover as seen in the basic plastic and once it is time to re-open the pool, there is less of a need to pump water back into the pool (though treatment chemicals may need to be added for the new water once opening the pool).
  2. pool covers Automatic Vinyl Cover: These pool covers may cost exponentially more than the cheaper alternatives but it is the most impressive and it’s easier to close and open the pool year after year. Sides of a solid vinyl cover are attached to tracks along the side of the pool and an electric motor turns a pulley to draw the cover along the water’s surface. It is supported along the sides, allowing increased safety and it is said they can hold just over the weight of two average adults. Some compare it to a water bed since you can safely sit, walk, or stand on the surface. It is not recommended to do so, but it beats drowning.
  3. Hard covers: These pool covers are mainly used for Jacuzzis and hot tubs, especially of the above-ground variety. They usually come with the above-ground Jacuzzi but should still be checked regularly for rips, tears, mold, and more.Related Topics:Oval Pool Covers

Pool Pop Ways To Make Pool More Exciting

Ways to Make Pool Pop

Pools are a great way to stay cool and spend time outside, but there are some simple (and some more complex) ways to make a pool more exciting, pleasant to look at, and fun! Today we’ll talk about a few ways to make your pool pop.Pool Pop

  1. Glow in the Dark and Blacklight: Using things that glow in the dark or are black-light reactive is a great way to add fun to a pool at night. Warm summer nights can be made into parties with glowing pool toys, tile, accessories, and more. Set up some black lights around the seating area and pull out the body paint! Just be sure to keep the pool clean and keep up with maintenance.
  2. Mosaic Tile Patterns: Use the tiled surfaces in and around the pool to express yourself. Animals, countries, celestial bodies, self-portraits, and more can make your pool much more exciting.
  3. Waterfalls: Adding a waterfall is one of the more expensive ways to keep a pool interesting, but it can help circulate the water as well as add a pleasant look and sound to the area. A waterfall in a corner or across an entire edge of the pool will separate you from your friends, neighbors, or family members with a pool and your home will be the talk of the town!
  4. Stone and Wood: Using stone or steps, boarders, patios, and more may be harder to clean than basic tile, but it will give a more natural and fancy look. Use stone with the aforementioned waterfall for a double whammy! Pair stone with mosaic tiles for a powerful effect! Wood, stone, or brick patios look amazing and are less likely to cause slippage from guests.
  5. Fun Shapes: Square, rectangular, and L-shaped pools are boring. Add a curve or 4, round the corners, make it unique. These will be harder to build, but the maintenance should not change, so why not?
  6. Color: Use colored lights, furniture, tile, and more to make it interesting. Surround your pool with deck chairs and tables in interesting colors and patterns. Beige and white around the pool will make it look drab and boring.Loggerhead Turtles green
  7. Plants: Use large trees to your advantage. Keep a section of the pool area shaded for those harsh sunlight hours. Keep decorative bushes and flowers around to keep the place looking fresh. Have some grass around the pool area somewhere to lay around in comfort.
  8. Waterproof everything: Keep the furniture safe with water-friendly materials or scotch-guarding. Keep things like grills far away enough from the pool to be out of the splash zone. If you decide to use electronics like stereos or televisions outside, keep them in a shaded area with ample protection from the sun and water.
  9. Have fun! Don’t be that neighbor who only uses the pool once or twice per year. Invite the neighbors and their children to get out of the hot sun. Bring coworkers over to enjoy the hot tub after a long day at work. A pool kept from people is a lonely sight indeed. Celebrate your amazing oasis with those close to you.  Bring in the pool toys and don’t worry if someone kicks some leaves or trails in some dirt or crumbs. Let Pool Daddy service your pool weekly to keep it sparkling and running smoothly.Related Topics:

Swimming Pool Investment 5 New Reasons

Swimming Pool

Everyone knows how awesome swimming pool are. Swimming is fun for everyone, good exercise, and it’s a great way to work on your tan while staying cool.

  1. Conversation starter: When having guests over, sometimes it’s hard to get everyone involved in the conversation. Install interesting colored lights or tiles and maybe put some interesting patterns in mosaic styles in your pool. Not only will you look fancy and sophisticated, but there’s a good chance someone will ask why your lights are bright green instead of dull off-white. Put your initials in the tiles along the side and feel like a celebrity. Get some smoke machines and make it a little creepy and mysterious.
  2. Keeps kids out of trouble: When kids have the option to swim in a pool or drive/ride/bike around town causing mischief, most of them will choose a poolside summer instead of sweating on their bikes.
  3. Themed parties: Make it college night by buying inflatable beer pong kits, installing volley ball nets, or turning towels into togas. Make it a beach or lake theme by bringing in plastic pink flamingos, fake turtles, palm trees, lily pads, or anything your heart desires. Anyone who couldn’t go to Florida this year for vacation can feel like they’re there. Hire a teenager to act as a server and towel warmer and pay them in pool time.
  4.  Great excuse to host parties: Who doesn’t like a swimming pool party? No need for super fancy food or decorations. Just invite the friends, family, and neighbors over and throw some food on a grill or make finger food and buy some sodas. No one will question your motives for throwing said parties. Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, or just another random Sunday, tell people it’s BYOB and BYOTowel.
  5. Save on electricity, air conditioning, and showering: A well maintained swimming pool will keep you entertained all summer long. It’ll keep you out of the house in the fresh air and cool water. You won’t need to have all of your lights, TV’s, and air conditioning on all day long. With proper lighting, you can hang out all night, too. And if you’re spending 3 days straight pool-side, showering will be an afterthought. Water’s clean, you don’t need to shower after swimming in a clean pool.

Now that you’re convinced a swimming pool is the best investment for your home, contact us for your pool cleaning needs. You can even contact us for landscaping needs and our team will work with the local landscaping groups to keep your pool and surrounding area clean, safe, and beautiful. People may start getting sick of seeing your beautiful sun-kissed skin and tan lines by the end of the summer, but come fall and winter they may be begging to spend time in your heated pool or spa. Here in Arizona, you may want to take a dip even in the middle of January.

Chlorinated Pools vs Saltwater

Chlorinated Pools vs Saltwater

Some people swear up and down that salt water pools are the only way to go because they are free of chlorine and are a healthier option. Others stick to chlorine because they simply don’t like the maintenance and feeling of salt water. Today we’ll discuss both types so you can decide.

Chlorine:

This chemical is what keeps pools clean and bacteria free. Even salt water pools use a little (when the salt breaks down it creates chlorine in small doses). Chlorine breaks down into different chemicals which destroy microorganisms and bacteria by destroying lipids, enzymes, and cell structures. Due to the destructiveness of chlorine, many pool owners worry about the health of their friends, family, children, dogs, and themselves. There is chlorine in all human bodies, but increased levels in the body can become toxic.

Hours after leaving the pool you can still smell chlorine and you feel the difference in your skin, making you rush to a soapy shower or bath.

Chlorinated pools are often cheaper upfront due to the fact that a chlorine generator isn’t needed upfront. However, more maintenance is needed to keep it clean and the amount of chlorine needs to be fairly exact for the best performance (but there are people out there to help with this information).

The chlorine is effective in killing contaminants, but fairly harmless chloramines remain, needing more chlorine to remove them and the chlorine itself can be harmful to skin and eyes.

Committed pool owners with time to maintain the pool (and possibly some money for professional cleaning) are  more than happy to close chlorine for the low cost (not counting maintenance), they are not, however, ideal for those not wanting to perform regular tests and cleaning.

Salt water:

Chlorinated Pools vs Saltwater

Many people assume salt water pools are just like the ocean, but they’re not. The salt levels are much lower. Salt water pools do end up with small levels of chlorine through the electrolysis of the salt water generator.

Chlorine is the smell of summer! Only it doesn’t have to be. Salt water pools do not leave everyone smelling of chlorine and the feeling skin has after a dip in chlorinated water is no longer an issue.  Salt water pool owners often report less stinging of eyes and softer skin after swimming in a salt water pool as opposed to chlorinated one.

Other products like pH balancers may need to be used in these pools, but since salt does not evaporate, it doesn’t need to be added regularly and some people even use basic table salt.

Despite the cleanliness chlorine claims to offer, algae can still be major problems. Luckily, salt water can decrease the build-up of algae, prolonging the life of the pool thanks to the steady stream of chlorine from the electrolysis process.

Converting a pool to salt water from chlorine can be very costly, but it can save money in the long run. Salt water pools need less manual  leaning and fewer chemicals, but generators that use up fairly large amounts of electricity with expensive replacement, parts, and maintenance.

Pool Daddy At Your Service

Pool Daddy

Last week we talked about some of our general services offered with Pool Daddy. Much of what we will talk about today is the lesser-thought of services we offer.

Pool filters need sand. Specific sands work best with pool filters and the wrong sand or too much of it can cause problems. This sand is also filled with bacteria by the time a change is needed and our professionals have the best equipment to keep all of the grime and bacteria away from your loved ones. This job can be done without full training, but at our prices you’d be crazy to do it on your own. Hiring us for your sand changing needs reduces the stress on your body and the worry of doing it right. The best part of this? The sand only needs to be changed every few years!

Pool heaters help keep a pool comfortable and refreshing year round! You wouldn’t think much of a pool heater in Arizona, but with those cool nights pools can retain cold temperatures for hours after sunrise. A cold pool may be refreshing in the middle of the summer during the peak temperature hours, but for a nice relaxing afternoon in the pool, slightly heated pools are great, and at night they’re even better a little warmer! We’ll keep your heater working properly so you can use your pool all day, every day if you want. Better yet, have us help with your heating pumps and we’ll hook you up with an amazing system which takes the heat from the outside air and transfers that heat into the water, saving your power system.

Above ground Jacuzzis are a great addition to any home. These require much less initial set up than in ground spas and Jacuzzis. Cleaning, maintenance, repair, setup; Pool Daddy will help you keep your unit running smoothly so you can enjoy it year round.

2012 brought in the new standardization of 2 speed or variable pumps in pools in Arizona. These pumps help keep your pool clean since all water must pass through the filters at some point, keeping contaminants out of your water. If you have not yet upgraded or want to make sure your pump is up to standards and working properly, call Pool Daddy and we’ll help you out. Our technicians know these things inside and out.

Pool DaddyEven with the best filters, your pool will need some cleaning details performed. Tile can become gross over time and even the best at-home cleaning supplies might not help. Our technicians will clean your tile with ease and restore your tile to a sheen you’ll want to show off ASAP. We also offer pressure washing to remove algae, dirt, and bacteria off of tile, walkways, and more. This low-energy consumption method is safe, powerful, and lasting.

Some people opt to have a salt water pool and these work differently than the standard chlorine types. Those who want a touch of the ocean or simply dislike other methods choose salt water and should be aware of the increased amounts of attention they will need. Our technicians are trained in the upkeep and maintenance of these systems as well so you don’t have to stress about whether you should have gone with the more conventional method when problems arise. Call us and we’ll help you prevent any future issues and keep your pool clean.

Finally, whether you’re swimming a few laps before breakfast or relaxing in your spa after dinner, lights in your pool are functional and pleasant. The right lights can change the entire mood while in your oasis. Keep your lights operating at full capacity year round so you never have to worry about swimming from sunup to sundown.
