Different Types Of Pool Heaters

Just like there are different types of heaters for your home, there are options for your pool. Today we’ll discuss various options with their advantages and disadvantages. Just remember, at Pool Daddy , we will service nearly all pool heaters. Even in warm climates, a heated pool is great. Cool nights can make a pool very cold, very fast. If you’re in the market for a new heating system or you’re about to have your first pool installed, check this out for some extra guidance.

Pool HeatersElectric Resistance: Electrical currents are used to create the heat. A current is applied to the resistor, heating the resistor. Water then passes over the resistor, heating the water. These pool heaters are usually used to heat small spas or therapy pools since the amount of electricity needed can be expensive for larger pools. They are used despite the high amounts of electricity, expensive installation, and high monthly operation costs because they operate independently of the air temperature and emit no air pollution.

Pool HeatersGas Heaters: Gas heaters, as the name suggests, burn natural gas or propane to generate heat. The gas is burned in a combustion chamber amongst a series of copper coils. Water runs through the coils, increasing in temperature on the voyage to the pool. These pool heaters are slightly cheaper than the electric resistance heaters and operate independently of air temperature but it can heat a pool quicker. They are also fairly expensive to maintain and are less energy efficient than the electric variety. They also tend to only last 5 years. One of the biggest turn offs of these styles of heaters in the past few years is pollution and cost of the fuel.

Pool HeatersHeat Pumps: These heating systems use electricity to transfer the heat to the pool. Some styles (Air-source heat pumps) take the air from around the pump to transfer the heat to the water. Geothermal heat pumps take heat from the water (for more information, check out the hyperlink). Heat pumps are the cheapest to operate on a monthly basis and are the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly. They can last up to 20 years, which explains the higher initial cost of the parts and installment. They can become inconvenient due to the dependence on air temperature and the slow rate of heating.

Pool HeatersSolar Heaters: Solar power is the way of the future! Only today. Solar panels are used to harness the heat from the sun. Water is then pushed through the circulation system, heating the water. Due to the nature of solar panels, most people using these types of heaters have auxiliary heaters to supplement the solar heaters during the night or cloudier days. These heaters are the most expensive upfront, but there is very minimal upkeep (no additional chemicals or products to purchase). They are very energy efficient, environmentally friendly and can last up to 20. One major turn-off most pool owners have about solar heaters is the installation of solar panels on a roof or lawn.

Pool Party For Thanksgiving Celebration

Thanksgiving Pool Party Celebration

Pool Party

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching—as seen by stores setting up Christmas decorations and displays already. If you’re struggling for ideas for your family or friends Thanksgiving celebration, consider throwing a pool party! It sounds insane for most of the country but Phoenix is begging for it! With average high temperatures at 70 degrees or higher, there’s no excuse not to enjoy your pool in November—especially if you have a hot tub or Jacuzzi for when it gets dark!

When you’ve spent hours upon hours cooking in a hot kitchen preparing the perfect turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes it would feel sublime to jump in the pool before serving dinner. Most of the country can’t enjoy warm weather in November but you can! Heated pools can provide relaxation, warmth, and cooling effects year round in the right climates.

You may be asking yourself “shouldn’t you wait an hour after eating to swim?” and you’re correct to think that because we’ve all been told that since childhood. As convincing as our parents were in telling us this, it’s a myth. Even if it were true, eating an early dinner provides your company with plenty of time to digest before taking a relaxing dip. Later dinner allows for pre-dinner swims to build up an appetite. Regardless of the time of the meal, swimming before and/or after such a big meal can be fun, relaxing, and energizing.

Pull out the floaties, turn on the Jacuzzi, and bring out the beach ball and take a dip this Thanksgiving. You have the day off for a reason; enjoy it before the temperature drops a little more.  Get in that inner-tube or pool lounger and digest the tryptophan and starch in the most relaxing way possible. Forget that your aunt and uncle had a fight at the table or that your nephews and nieces were screaming because you ran out of pumpkin pie.

After the kids are all taking their food-coma induced naps and your in-laws go home, why not turn on the jets and pull out the bubbly and relax in a hot tub with your closest friends and coolest family members. If you’re into Black Friday shopping, use this time to prep your body for the pushing and shoving to come.

Pool PartyIf you’re not fond of sharing your pool with your relatives, invite your friends over the next day and eat all the leftovers pool-side in the early afternoon. Keep cool and enjoy the 4-day weekend.

No matter what you do this Thanksgiving weekend, you can contact us for weekly pool cleaning or preventative repairs and maintenance. You can even ask us about some renovations or changes to make your Thanksgiving memorable. Also, if your creepy uncle spills gravy in the pool or the kids throw their pie at each other pool-side we can help clean the pool to its pristine glory before your Christmas party.

Pool heaters help keep a pool comfortable and refreshing year round! You wouldn’t think much of a pool heater in Arizona, but with those cool nights pools can retain cold temperatures for hours after sunrise. A cold pool may be refreshing in the middle of the summer during the peak temperature hours, but for a nice relaxing afternoon in the pool, slightly heated pools are great, and at night they’re even better a little warmer! We’ll keep your heater working properly so you can use your pool all day, every day if you want. Better yet, have us help with your heating pumps and we’ll hook you up with an amazing system which takes the heat from the outside air and transfers that heat into the water, saving your power system.

Above ground Jacuzzis are a great addition to any home. These require much less initial set up than in ground spas and Jacuzzis. Cleaning, maintenance, repair, setup; Pool Daddy will help you keep your unit running smoothly so you can enjoy it year round.

2012 brought in the new standardization of 2 speed or variable pumps in pools in Arizona. These pumps help keep your pool clean since all water must pass through the filters at some point, keeping contaminants out of your water. If you have not yet upgraded or want to make sure your pump is up to standards and working properly, call Pool Daddy and we’ll help you out. Our technicians know these things inside and out.

Pool DaddyEven with the best filters, your pool will need some cleaning details performed. Tile can become gross over time and even the best at-home cleaning supplies might not help. Our technicians will clean your tile with ease and restore your tile to a sheen you’ll want to show off ASAP. We also offer pressure washing to remove algae, dirt, and bacteria off of tile, walkways, and more. This low-energy consumption method is safe, powerful, and lasting.

Some people opt to have a salt water pool and these work differently than the standard chlorine types. Those who want a touch of the ocean or simply dislike other methods choose salt water and should be aware of the increased amounts of attention they will need. Our technicians are trained in the upkeep and maintenance of these systems as well so you don’t have to stress about whether you should have gone with the more conventional method when problems arise. Call us and we’ll help you prevent any future issues and keep your pool clean.

Finally, whether you’re swimming a few laps before breakfast or relaxing in your spa after dinner, lights in your pool are functional and pleasant. The right lights can change the entire mood while in your oasis. Keep your lights operating at full capacity year round so you never have to worry about swimming from sunup to sundown.

How Does A Heat Pump Pool Heater Heat Your Scottsdale Pool?

Heat pump pool heaters use electricity to capture heat.  As the pool pump circulates the water, it is drawn from the pool and through a filter and into the heat pump heater.  The heater itself has a fan that pulls in outside air and pushes it over the evaporator coil.  At this point liquid refrigerant in the evaporator coil absorbs the heat from the outside air converting it into a gas.  The gas is then passed through the compressor where it increases the heat.  This very hot gas is then sent through the condenser where the hot gas is transferred to the cool pool water circulating through the heater.  The heated water is then returned to the pool.  Heat pump pool heaters work best in climates where the outside temperatures remain above 45ºF. For more information on these energy efficient pool heating pumps, visit this page from Energy.gov.

How Does A Gas Pool Heater Work in Scottsdale?

Gas pool heaters are fueled either by natural gas or propane.  As water is circulated through the pump it passes from the filter into the heater. The gas burning in the heater’s combustion chamber generates heat that transfers to the water and is then returned to the pool making your Scottsdale pool warm.  Gas pool heaters are most efficient for a heating pool for short periods of time.  Many pool owners’ use them to quickly heat their pools if they are not using them on a regular basis.
