Pool, hot tub , or Jacuzzi ownership can be very rewarding. Not only in the summer months but also in winter, when you know the right things to do.
While we have talked a lot about pool winterization , not everyone chooses to close down their in-ground or above ground pools for the Fall or Winter. If you are considering keeping your pool open year-round here are some reasons you may or may not have considered to finalize your decision.
Things you should consider for your Pool this Winter
- Exercise: If you can stand the cooler temperatures or you have a pool heater, swimming year-round can be great exercise. While pool parties are probably not in your winter future, it may be a nice way to keep those extra pounds at bay.
- Warmth: Hot tubs and Jacuzzis are amazing in the cooler months! Relax after a long day at work with a luxurious soak in your hot tub to keep stress down and comfort up. While these aren’t things you commonly shut down for any period of time, it is important to make sure they are being cared for just as they would in any other months– especially if used regularly.
- Entertainment: While pool parties may not be common during this time of the year, extra-warm days may call for an impromptu pool party , or you may want to bring over some friends for some hot tub relaxation for sports games or holidays.
- Aesthetic: Sometimes it’s nice to sit out by the pool and enjoy the visual appeal of a body of water.
Not winterizing your pool can cost you more in the long run, but the cost of a cover and the appropriate chemicals may be comparable to the costs of regular maintenance and checks throughout the winter. The decision is up to you. Regular skimming may need to be increased in areas with a lot of plant life, but much of this maintenance will not be much more than during the summer months.
If you decide to keep your pool open, just take precaution and pay attention to the weather forecasts. It can get below freezing for short periods of time throughout the winter. This may lead to some emergency care or draining. Take precaution and don’t forget about your regular care and any short-term solutions.
